LISTEN TO MY SONG!!1!

The basic setup of WicDiv is this every 90 years, twelve Gods incarnate into RADICAL HUMAN TEENS so that they can spend two years living among mortals and doing massive quantities of blow. Also passing on Divine Inspiration by way of art. This generation all became pop stars, because of course they did! So when they "perform," they sing a song that may induce a very serious religious experience.

Will it affect my character?

Long answer: how or why someone can commune with a particular god or not is not explicitly spelled out, but it seems to be influenced in part by one's innate capacity for faith, and a personal resonance with the god's message. It's kinda rare that a particular person would be able to commune with every god, and it's also kinda rare that a particular person wouldn't be affected any of them.

Short answer: basically if you want them to go for it and if you don't, no worries.

So what's it do?

The song will transfer a strong sense of her divinity- which is to say "what it is that people need from them, spiritually" Wow that is vague! But for example, Lucifer inspires people to the glory of rebellion, Inanna encourages people be in touch with their true desires.

Persephone, as a god, has been through some serious trauma! And she seems to sing about living in hell. (Literally, but mostly metaphorically!) People who really hear her seem prone to weeping, shaking, collapsing. But painful as it is, everyone seems to agree that it is FUCKING AWESOME. Because it's not just a song about suffering, it's also a song about perseverance through the dark winter, and then fucking shit up once it's spring again.

However!  Not just everyone will perceive all that.   Your character will probably fall somewhere on this spectrum:

Zero Effect (very rare) for characters with especially low faith stats and are predisposed to not understand her.

They will hear a girl with an impressively loud and on-key voice just singing gibberish, but everyone around her is flipping out for no reason? Why????

Middling Effect (most common)  maybe your character has a lowish level of faith, maybe they don't have a lot of trauma, maybe they've already fuckin dealt with their trauma, maybe you the player choose this level because you feel like it for a reason not specified above

THEY WILL HEAR A FUCKING AWESOME ROCK SONG.  Like holy shit. That is some serious rock & roll.  It is raw, and it is angry, and even if they can't understand the lyrics, there's a good sense for what she's singing about and it's fucking real.

Full Effect (slightly uncommon)
for characters prone to understanding divinity, and to characters with personal experiences of trauma and depression

They will hear an incredibly powerful, beautiful, but also genuinely painful song. If they think about it, they can tell that the lyrics are in tongues, but it doesn't matter; they can still understand it all perfectly.  Persephone is in Hell, and she

Side-Effects may include:
  • SERIOUS Adrenaline surges
  • Raggggge
  • Repressed shit in general coming up to the surface
  • Reliving of traumatic experiences, but in a cool way! That makes you want to start a street brawl!
  • PAINFULLY INTENSE HOPE (That still kind of makes you want to start a street brawl??)

For those who can perceive the full effect, many of them enjoy the experience, like a sort of  intense catharsis, but some certainly do not!

NEW SECRET FOURTH OPTION BAD TRIP. It doesn't happen so much in canon but it's been a lot of fun to RP with.  For characters who maybe understand her message too well but it's not really what they need to hear.  If you want to go here, please tap me here or in a journal PM or [plurk.com profile] somarysueme

I RECOGNIZE THIS IS ALL DEEPLY FUZZY SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.  So much of this is genuinely open to interpretation, I want folks to be able to let their characters respond to it in a way that they wanna! If you have a canon reason why your character's reaction should be special or complicated please do feel free to each out. because I love working that nerdy stuff out. :3c  If you don't have a mary sue reason but just wanna ask questions, please do that too!
