First night. Slow. Simple. The only trouble I ran into... [She actually smiles a little at this--]
Thought I was him. [And she opens up one of the cartons, pleased to find chicken tikka masala in there. (God though, Laura, could you have a more Londoner approach to Indian food.)]
You have forks? [come on what kind of takeout restaurant doesn't give you utensils]
Guess I'm making a run out, then. That will be one bucket of coffee, two bottles of whiskey, and a straw then?
[Luci starts hurriedly picking up a shirt in the corner and some pants from under the bed-- fuck underwear, she has to get some air.]
Back in a flash. [She calls over her shoulder as she strips out of the embarrassing shirt somebody left outside Hades for Persephone, and makes a beeline for the exit.]
[Taking that, and she nods as she starts tucking into hers.]
Yeah, it's great. [She's used to being mistaken for Batman by people who didn't get a good look at her, that's a potential strength of being Batgirl, even if she knows full well it wasn't going to be enough here. But right now, acting in the mantle proper? This is so much more. She's thrilled, even if it's terrifying.
Her expression changes, and she sighs, still a little uncertain.]
Just didn't feel... real, until then. Still doesn't.
[ This is the part where Inanna should be pulling her into a hug, one that they need as badly as she does. Unfortunately they're stuck relying on their face to convey enough understanding to make up for it. It's only a little marred by Inanna's own wrecked nerves leaving them with a brow perpetually pinched in anxiety. ]
[That gets her to take pause. She doesn't know that much of what Laura's experienced, but--she's gotten a solid read on her, at least in a general way. Maybe this will make sense.]
Like I'm... pretending. Like this can't work.
Like I got to be... the only thing I've wanted to be? Just... at the worst time.
[ It's satisfying - slightly less satisfying than watching it shatter, but it does its job of reassuring him that he can go all-out against these, and it means nothing. Less than nothing, unless you count whatever energy it takes out of Persephone, but he trusts her to say the word when it's time to stop.
Normally, he'd dodge the blow, but here? It's fine if he gets tossed around a little. He's in no actual danger, so he takes the blow head on, bracing himself against it as he's tossed further into the air, only to spin around and blast them with a loud crackle of blue energy, a small circle of glass appearing in the smoking pit below. ]
[ she cradles Inann's head, tucking their forehead under her chin. it's disgusting. she can feel their exposed flesh against her skin. They stink like blood and bile. ]
I- you're here now. I'll take care of this. I'll take care of you.
[ This should be comforting, except it absolutely isn't. There's nothing Inanna can do but sit there and let her hold them, and it feels so strange—disconcerting. There are too many things they can't help but expect to feel; the press of her against their chest, the weight of arms around their waist. All those things they simply don't have now. It leaves a sick feeling in the pit of a stomach they don't have.
Inanna draws a few shaky breaths, fighting against the urge give in to tears; the situation is bad enough already without that. They can hold it together a little longer. ]
[ Another snap and she raises a platform for herself to get a better view of the battlefield. He's fast. Faster than she'd realized. It's hard to keep up with him, even with her magic arsenal.
She'll need to get around him, grapple, aim his blasters away from her greenery. She shouts out her count of four again- four vines heading for four limbs. ]
